We are never more aware of how much every single moment matters than we are when illness begins to limit our time or ability to live life to its fullest.
That’s the reason behind Moments that Matter, a patient fund through the Quincy Medical Group (QMG) Healthcare Foundation focused on honoring patients by granting “bucket list wishes.”
The QMG Healthcare Foundation will host a Steak Eating Challenge in support of Moments that Matter this weekend. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at One Event and Venue,, 600 Hampshire St. Quincy, Ill.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
General admission tickets are available at the door.
The event will have 15 local competitors each vying to get through five rounds of food challenges. Each round brings a different food and different challenge.
Not only do competitors have to race against the clock, but some will also be thrown a curveball which is what we call obstacles.
The final five will attempt the famous 40 oz. ribeye steak from Boodalu Steakhouse and become the 2nd annual Steak Eating Challenge Champion, title, steak gift certificate and best of all steak trophy.
The Moments that Matter Fund grants wishes for terminally ill patients in QMG’s service area.
Laura Tenhouse, director of Community Relations with QMG, founded Moments the Matter and says oftentimes medical needs and expenses can become so overwhelming for patients that their desire for other experiences is not always the top priority.
Moments that Matter seeks to change that by talking to patients and families about experiences they would like to share.
“The wishes of our patients would not be possible without the support of the community,” Tenhouse said. “We’re raising funds to cover the expenses of all aspects of each wish and experience so that we can make this is a reality for patients. It is so humbling to see so many community members come together and support our mission.”
