A man termed a community leader was named the Citizen of the Year during the annual Palmyra Chamber of Commerce banquet last Thursday evening.

Loren Graham, who has served as mayor for the past 14 years, was recognized as the Citizen of the Year while Mark Loman, show heads the Pride program at Palmyra High School, was named the Educator of the Year.

Also winning awards were Madonna Watters, Volunteer of the Year; Doug and Gayle Voepel, Main Street Lanes, Paint Brush Award; and Bud’s Paint and Body Shop, Business Hall of Fame.

Nancy Goellner was recognized by Kayla Wittler, Chamber president, with the President’s Award, and Charlene Jones-Liendo and Mason Owen were presented plaques for their years of service to the Chamber board.

Following the presentation of the awards, Wittler introduced the 2020 Chamber board, including Joel Swisher, vice president; Samantha Brown, Brock Fahy, Jason Janes, Chris Kempke, Heather McChristian, Kathryn Smith and Caitlin Smyser, board members; and Susan Berti, secretary/treasurer.

Thank yous were also extended to committee chairs, including Graham, Bicentennial Committee; Goellner, Old Glory Days; Michelle Merkel, Taste of Palmyra; Smyser, Christmas in Palmyra; and Randy and Michelle Hopson, Marion County Fair.
