The city of Palmyra’s property tax rate will remain the same following action by the city council during its regular meeting Thursday.

The council considered a proposed ordinance, establishing a caterer’s license, and transferred money from the Industrial Park Fund to the Water Fund.

The council was unanimous in setting the 2019 tax rate on real, personal and mixed property at 0.6621 cents per $100 assessed valuation, the same rate as 2018.

The maximum tax rate for cities is set by the state.

The tax rate ordinance was passed in emergency passage, requiring one reading, in order to submit it before the deadline.

The council heard the first reading of an ordinance creating a caterer’s license. It will go into effect, if approved, during the next meeting Aug. 22.

The caterer’s license would allow catering businesses in Palmyra to serve liquor or beer outside of their premises if they have a city liquor license.
