Things are holding their own right now in Marion County as far as flooding is concerned.
During Monday’s Marion County Commission meeting, Western District Commissioner Steve Begley said the Fabius Drainage District is “guardedly optimistic” the district levee should hold.
“They (volunteers) did a great job,” said Begley who visited the site Saturday morning. “I was very impressed with the work they have done.
“I can’t say enough how much I appreciate those who volunteered,” he added. “Without them, we would have lost the battle a long time ago. They’ve kept us in the shape we’re in.”
Sandbagging took on a double effort after the levee in Lewis County on the Durgens Creek broke and threatened West Quincy.
