History seeking

Norman Hare is shown above opening the first Heritage Seekers’ program of 2020. Hare shared information about the restoration of the Robert Masterson home which is believed to be the oldest surviving home in Marion County.  After having been abandoned for several decades, the home was completely restored by the Hares. Thirty people attended the program.  The next program will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Hall’s Hall.  The program, to be presented by W.T. Johnson, will be centered on the story of Miles Britton, a slave who had belonged to Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States from 1861-1865.  Britton’s death certificate shows “Buried - Palmyra, Mo.”  All Heritage Seekers programs are free and open to the public and designed to increase interest in local history.
