Palmyra’s bicentennial celebration will reach its climax over the next month.

A bicentennial ball is planned for July 13. And after the Marion County Fair July 27-Aug. 3, will come the 200th birthday celebration Aug. 10.

The St. Louis based Gateway City Big Band will perform during the bicentennial ball and concert Saturday, July 13, at the American Legion Hall.

The 17-piece band features two vocalists, and those attending can dance the night away or just enjoy the big band music.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at city hall or HOMEBANK or by emailing jlemons@nemonet.com. Tickets, which are limited in number, will go up in price after July 6.

There will be light snacks and a cash bar.  Dress is formal or dressy casual.

The event is being held in conjunction with the American Legion’s 100th anniversary.

Palmyra’s actual 200th birthday celebration will take place Aug. 10 with a number of events planned.
