Palmyra remained on a list of safest cities in the state and even moved up a couple of spots in the top 10.

According to the wetsite, SafeWise, Palmyra moved from seventh to fifth safest city in in Missouri for 2019.

According to the SafeWise website, the list is compiled using up-to-date FBI crime data.

“I feel like our town is pretty safe, so I’m not really surprised,” said Mayor Loren Graham.  “I think it shows what our community believes already about how safe Palmyra is. It’s also great news to hear during our bicentennial year.

“And, positive news about our community is a always a good thing.”

According to the SafeWise listing, Palmyra, a city of 3,619 people, with an average salary of $43,918, had a violent crime rate of 0.21 incidents per 1,000 people and a property crime rate of 33.71 per 1,000.
