A young man from Palmyra not only recently earned his Eagle Scout award, but preserved a piece of local history with his project.

Braden Erwin, a member of Palmyra’s Scout Troop 161, received his Eagle Scout award, following rehab of the Marion City marker.

That monument, he said, is something he’s seen numerous times and felt it needed repaired.

“Growing up, I’ve driven down that road many times on my way to and from our river camp,” said Erwin, the son of Steve Eriwn and Amy Erwin. “I’ve always looked at the rock and thought that it needed to be restored.”

Seeing the stone’s appearance, Erwin set about making rehabbing the monument his Eagle Scout project.
