Work should be getting underway soon on the new track after the R-I Board of Education approved a contract during it’s meeting last week.

The $1,031,000 contract was approved during the board meeting, at which the board also heard an update on the 2019-20 budget process, learned a senior was to be awarded a scholarship during the MSBA spring regional meeting, approved a contract for the new track and field, approved reimbursements and made two purchases.

The contract with Byrne and Jones to build the new track and field includes a grass in-field at this time, but those plans could change once costs for other projects are learned.

A special board meeting was to be held Monday evening at which the board was expected to approve contracts with CTS, which is managing the projects, and with Byrne and Jones. At that time, they were also hoping to learn the costs for all projects approved by the no tax increase bond issue, which was approved by voters earlier this month.

Projects include not only building the track and field, but also work on the middle school cafeteria, building a new weight room, renovations to the ag building and work to fix drainage issues on the elementary school playground.
