The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, NEMO Drug Task Force and Probation/Parole Office conducted a sex offender compliance check in Hannibal, Palmyra and surrounding areas of Marion County Oct. 23.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Shinn, state statute requires sheriff’s to register all sex offenders residing within the county or offenders that work within the counties of their perspective jurisdictions.

“We conducted compliance checks on approximately 60 sex offenders on Wednesday afternoon and throughout the evening,” said Sheriff Jimmy Shinn. “During the checks, consensual searches were conducted on residences and electronic devices in search of violations of Missouri law.

“We want to be sure that the information that they report to us is accurate and that they are abiding by the statues concerning sex offender registry.”
