The Palmyra City Council last Thursday authorized the street department to seek bids for a new salt spreader and for the sale of an old truck.

Also during their regular meeting, council members discussed streamlining communications with the Board of Public Works during emergency utility issues.

Street Commissioner Lynn Smith asked for and received permission to seek bids for a salt spreader like one the department is already using.

He told the council it has been budgeted for, and, when purchased, would be put on the truck he uses with the older spreader moved to another truck.

He said having the two spreaders could prevent his department from having to use heavier equipment during some winter weather.
