George Wilfred (Willie) Foreman, 91, Wither’s Mill, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center in Hannibal, Mo.
Willie was born on Sept. 24, 1927, at home in Rensselaer, Mo., the 11th of 12 children born to Paul and Louise (Brown) Foreman.
Willie graduated from Rensselaer High School and went on to further his education at Hannibal-LaGrange College.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army.
On Aug. 28, 1949, he married Ruth Elma Ihrig of Withers Mill.
After teaching two years in Cantril Iowa Public School, he returned to the Wither’s Mill community to farm until his retirement.
Mr. Foreman was a charter member of the Mark Twain Men’s Chorale and was a life-long member of Big Creek Presbyterian Church.
Willie is survived by his wife, Ruth; six children, Gary (Ann), Palmyra, Mo.; Sarah Chisamore (Jim), Rochelle, Ill.; Bruce (Beth), Holland, Mich.; Joe (Marcia), Troy, Mo.; Jesse (Amy), Benson, Ariz.; and Jay (DeeDee), Collinsville, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Foreman, Columbia, Mo.; and Dr. Phillip Foreman, Hannibal; and one sister, Renee Holloway, Eldon, Mo.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Foreman was preceded in death by an infant son, Bradley Foreman; six brothers, Calvin, Allen, Paul (Mac), Robert, Benjamin and Thomas; and two sisters, Mary Ruth Burris and Helen Grimstad.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Big Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Rensselaer. Burial with committal prayers will follow the service in the Big Creek Cemetery. Rev. Nathan Markley will officiate.
Visitation celebrating Willie’s life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal. A second visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday morning at the church.
