Irene “Renee” Evelyn Griesbaum, 90, Taylor, Mo., passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at her daughter’s home.
Renee was born Sept. 23, 1928, at Mark Bottom in Taylor, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Fannie Grace Schaberg Krietemeyer. She was married to Albert Griesbaum Jr. on July 23, 1950 in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death March 5, 1978.
Survivors include five children, Danny Griesbaum (Juanita), Durham, Mo.; Billy Griesbaum (Missy), Taylor; Cindy Kroeger (Gary), Maywood, Mo.; Susie Steffan (Ken), Plainville, Ill.; and Jenny Carter (Mike), Ewing, Mo.; three siblings, Bob Krietemeyer, Ewing; Polly Sutton (Don), Palmyra; and John Krietemeyer, Ewing; and 12 grandchildren, Jamie Griesbaum (Crissy), Doug Kroeger (Karrie), Kim Lackey (Josh), Skeeter Kroeger (Emily), Shelley Griesbaum, Zach Steffen, Adam Griesbaum (Kelsey), Blaise Steffen (Shannon), Erin Whitaker (Jordan), Brianne Seals (Brett), Ross Carter and Adam Mast (Diana). She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Renee was also preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Carlene Breeden, Mary Johnson, Dick Krietemeyer, Helen Bradney and Martha Archer; a granddaughter, Dana Griesbaum; and stillborn grandson, Thomas Ira Wenneker.
Renee graduated from Palmyra High School in 1947. Prior to marriage, she was a seamstress at Ely Walker & Co. in Quincy, Ill. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper on her family’s farm.
Renee enjoyed sewing and gardening. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Renee attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. Mark Carpenter and Donna Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery in Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Griesbaum, Doug Kroeger, Skeeter Kroeger, Zach Steffen, Adam Griesbaum, Blaise Steffen, Ross Carter and Adam Mast.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kim Lackey, Shelley Griesbaum, Erin Whitaker, Brianne Seals and Renee’s great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Memorials may be made to the Palmyra Nutrition Center or the Hospice of Northeast Missouri. A nonperishable food item may also be brought in memory of Renee that will be donated to a local food pantry.
