John Pflantz, 71, Palmyra, Mo., passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019, at his home in Palmyra.
He was born Oct. 4, 1947, in Quincy, Ill., to Edgar J and Virginia Dorothy Schluckebier Pflantz.
Survivors include brothers Vernon Pflantz, Fort Meyers, Fla.; and Kent Pflantz, Palmyra; aunt, Lois Lohmann, St. Louis, Mo.; niece, Kim McCurdy, Palmyra; great-niece and great-nephew, Bailey McCurdy and Bradley Cash.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John graduated from Palmyra High School and then went on to graduate from vocational school in Quincy to be a mechanic.
After joining the Army, he worked as a mechanic while stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era. While serving his country he received a hardship discharge to come home and run the family farm after his father passed away in 1970.
He was active in the Lutheran Layman’s League and very active in his church. Currently he served as an elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
John worked on the USDA FSA committee, and he enjoyed going on vacation cruises with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Ely, Mo. Burial will follow service at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Scott Salo will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Darryl Bode, Rex Pflantz, Jim Bunk, Richard Thompson, Kevin Frankenbach and Alan Schachtsiek.
