LeRoy K. Strate 

LeRoy K. Strate, 82, Quincy, Ill., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Sunset Home in Quincy.    

Leroy was born May 4, 1935, in Palmyra, Mo., the son of Edward C. and Carolina Lena Kroencke Strate. He married Thelma White. Together they raised Bullmastiff dogs and showed them in competitions. She preceded him in death. He was later married to Gloria Roskamp on Aug. 26, 1995, in Quincy.  She survives.

Other survivors include one sister, Freda Munson, Minnesota; two step-sons, Lance Roskamp (Tami) and Layne Roskamp (Rose); one niece, Randi Rose (Justin); and three grandchildren, Shanna Winter, Jared Roskamp and Jami Roskamp.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Margaret Hoehne, Carolina Strate and Ella Sophia Bock.

LeRoy was a graduate of Palmyra High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri.

LeRoy served many years in the National Guard.

He was a man of faith and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra. 

He was always pleasant and easy going.

LeRoy loved woodworking. He made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his and Gloria’s home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Pastor Wes Gehrke will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Quincy, Ill.
