Millard Crane “Bub” Delashmutt, 94, formerly of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, Mo.       

Millard was born June 12, 1925, in Hannibal, Mo. to Millard Elsworth and Pauline Crane Delashmutt.

Survivors include two nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins.

Bub was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margaret Pauls.

Bub graduated from high school in Washington, Iowa. He did his undergraduate work at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and graduate work at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa.

Professionally Millard worked several years as a social worker for the Iowa Department of Social Services. He taught English, social studies and psychology for several years and worked at the Blue Note Cafe and Iowa Frontier Cafe and Lounge.

He was a lifetime member of the Iowa State Historical Society and the National Education Association. He also served as the treasurer for the Washington, Iowa Red Cross under the direction of Winnie Beiter.

Bub took care of his parents during their final years and then retired to Missouri to be close to relatives as he never married.

He was a Methodist by faith.

A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday July 5, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. 

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, July 5, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Sam Wilson will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Maple Lawn Auxiliary or to Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch.
