The purpose of this letter is to express heartfelt appreciation to friends and neighbors who faithfully support the Palmyra Area Food Pantry! This letter is also being written to let the readers know how vital volunteer time and donations are to the pantry’s operation!
The pantry could not continue to serve our community without the time and energy of our faithful volunteers! Tuesday mornings are devoted to receiving, unloading, and stocking the shelves with resources received from the Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri and The Midwest Food Bank. Volunteers also travel to Columbia and Peoria to these food banks to pick up additional food resources.
Every Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. the pantry is open to those who need assistance. Volunteers help those individuals gather needed food items from supplies that are available that week.
About 300 households are served each month at the Pantry. An average of 40 volunteers serve each week. The Pantry does not have any paid staff, but is operated solely by volunteers.
The pantry could not provide vital food resources and other necessary household items if it were not for the generous donations and support from churches, organizations, businesses, families, and individuals in the Palmyra area!
Donations can be mailed to, or dropped off, at the Exchange Bank in Palmyra, or mailed directly to: Palmyra Area Food Pantry, 319 West Main Cross, Palmyra, MO 63461.
A letter of verification for charitable contributions, per IRS guidelines, for tax purposes, will gladly be provided to businesses and individuals upon the donor’s request. Missouri donors are also encouraged to take advantage of Missouri’s Food Pantry Tax Credit, which may reduce Missouri taxes owed by 50 percent of the total annual contributions made, up to $2,500 per individual taxpayer.
If anyone might like to volunteer to help at the pantry, please just “show up” on a Tuesday, or call Sharon Wommack at 573-406-2528 to see how you can help support the Pantry!
