The Palmyra High School Quiz Bowl team won the championship match of the WGEM Academic Challenge Quiz Bowl Tournament with a 290 to 190 win over Bushnell-Prairie High School Saturday.

The match was the final in a seven-part television series airing weekly on WGEM NBC, WGEM FOX and WGEM News Talk FM 105.1.

Members of the Palmyra High School team include Mason Mitchell, Evan Nierman, Trevor Stratton, Chase Goldinger and Tim Wellman. Gretta Stark served as coach for the team.

Bushnell-Prairie High School team members include Noah Cox, Kenny Suter, Ilese Rodeffer, Keith Hoyle, Seth Brown and Emma Bradford. Katie Caulkins coached the Bushnell-Prairie team.

The WGEM Academic Challenge features 16 schools from the tri-state region competing in 15 matches.  

The host of this year’s tournament was WGEM Sports Director Tony Cornish Jr.  The series was co-sponsored by John Wood Community College and WGEM.

Judges for the 2019 challenge were JWCC faculty members Melissa Knapp, assistant professor of mathematics; Mike Terry, chair and professor of language, literature and humanities and Dr. Randy Wolfmeyer, assistant professor of engineering.  

The series is under the direction of Shawn Dickerman, marketing manager at WGEM.
