The Marion County R-II softball team will be under new leadership this year.
Ciara Mackey takes the reigns of the Lady Mustangs, who hope to be competitive in 2019.
“I am very much looking forward to this season,” said Mackey, a suburban Chicago native and former Culver-Stockton College Wildcat.
“We have a really young team with a lot of talent,” she said. “I could not have asked for a better group to work with, especially my first year on the job.
“The best part for me...I get to coach most of them for a few more years and keep building up the program. I am grateful for this opportunity and to be a Mustang.”
Mackey grew up in Rosemont, Ill. where she attended East Leyden High School and played varsity softball all four years.
After graduating from C-SC, she played for a USA Athletes International team in Aruba.
Mackey is being assisted by Nicole Whestone, a Marion County R-II alum.
