The PHS football team opens the season Friday at Brookfield.

Game time is 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs went a woeful 1-9 last season, but showed flashes of competitiveness against tough competition including Palmyra.

Last year, the Panthers opened the season against Brookfield at home and barely managed to win thanks to a late touchdown and a missed extra point.

Jarom Alexander scored the game’s first points on a 27-yard touchdown run with 58 seconds left in the game.

He also kicked the extra-point to provide what looked like a sure 7-0 win.

However, Brookfield roared back and scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left to give the Bulldogs a chance to tie or win the game.

But, the extra-point kick was blocked by senior Jacob Kroeger, preserving the Panthers’ season opening victory.

Palmyra will play their first home game, next Friday, against Bowling Green.
