The PHS varsity boys’ golf team earned their trip to the Class 2 State Championships by taking second place in the Class 2 Sectional 4 match at Green Hills in Brookfield Monday.
“I’m really proud of this team,” said Coach Marty Smyser after the Panthers took second place in Sectionals.
“We’ve definitely had ups and downs this year, but we’ve also been pretty consistent in our team scoring,” he said.
“What’s changed from match to match is the order of our scoring. We’ve had different guys be low and teammates pick each other up throughout the year.”
“They work really hard at it and they have good relationships and spend a lot of time together.”
“Four of the five golfers participated at state last year and four of the five golfers return next year.”
“I feel like this team has just kept grinding all year and didn’t allow the struggles throughout the year to get them down. They kept their eyes on our goals as a team and on Monday they achieved that goal, to take the whole team to state.”
“We’re going to go out there on Monday and Tuesday, play our game, and let the chips fall where they may.”
