The PHS boys track and field team brings experience and leadership into the 2019 season.

With talent in all phases, including sprinting, mid and long distance and field events, Coach Shannon Haerr is optimistic the team will see success.

“I think we’re going to have a good crew this year,” Haerr said. “It’s been cold weather, so we haven’t gotten out much, but I think we’ll do okay this year.”

Weather is always iffy as the start of track season draws near, but it has been especially bad this year with the cold and snow, forcing the team to stay inside when the temperature is below freezing.

But, Haerr is actually wanting the team to do more work inside this year in the form of weight lifting.

“This year we’re trying to focus on getting a little stronger,” Haerr said. “I think if we stay strong during the season, it will translate into more speed and strength when we throw and run.”
