Girls golf team takes second at Columbia Hickman quad

by Mark Cheffey

The PHS girls golf team opened the 2020 season by placing second out of four teams at a match at Lake of the Woods in Columbia, hosted by Columbia Hickman.

Palmyra shot a 198 to place behind only Father Tolton Catholic, 160, and ahead of Capital City, 203, and Hickman, 207.

“It was a great start for a young team,” said Coach Chris Parsons.

Madeline Jawad and Mallory Comstock led the team with 48s, followed by Ella Goldinger and Taytum Parsons with 51s.

“Those were low scores for Jawad and Goldinger in school golf and for Parsons, a freshman in her first ever varsity match,” Parsons said.

Also scoring were Kylie Begley, 54, and Mallory Sublette, 59.

The Lady Panthers were also scheduled to play at Jefferson City Helias, Monday, and at Moberly, Tuesday. However, results were not available for this issue.

They will travel to Mexico, Thursday before hosting their first home match against Fulton this Tuesday.
