R-I District student count goes up

The Palmyra School District started the 2020-21 school year with five more students than the start of school last year.

Palmyra started the school year with 1,132 students for 2020-21 an increase over the 1,127 students which started the 2019-20 year.

While the middle school showed the greatest drop from the 2019-20 school year to this, they also passed along 113 eighth graders to the high school, which showed an increase of 18 students from last year.

Total numbers for the elementary school showed 20 Pre-K students; 96 kindergarteners, 74 first graders, 76 second graders, 96 third graders and 88 fourth graders for a total enrollment of 450 students.

The elementary school had 432 students to start the 2019-20 school year

Palmyra Middle School had 321 students, including 81 fifth graders, 64 sixth graders, 82 seventh graders and 94 eighth graders.

Last year, the middle school had a total of 351 students to start the school year.

Palmyra High School started this year with 361 students, including 113 freshmen, 85 sophomores, 80 juniors and 83 seniors.

The high school had 344 students at the start of the 2019-20 school year. 

These figures include the 39 students district wide who are participating in distance learning this year. Of those students, 10 are elementary age; 15 middle school and 14 high school.
