Butterfly away

During the past spring and summer, Pat Chostner, of Palmyra, has been hoping to foster some Monarch butterflies and her work and attention came to fruition this past week with the emergency of her first, distinctive orange and black butterfly. Chostner purchased a milkweed plant, raised it in a pot, and successfully in attracted them. In addition to the butterfly and caterpillar seen above, the plant had a total of eight chrysalis and eight caterpillars, providing promise for more Monarchs to emerge.

Chostner was concerned the first butterfly would not survive being captured by a bird, but she reported it flew away Friday to parts unknown.
