Chamber cancels Christmas in Palmyra due to COVID-19

While the saying is you can’t stop Christmas from coming, the coronovirus can definintely stop Christmas in Palmyra.

The Palmyra Chamber of Commerce announced last week, that in an effort to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus, the Palmyra Chamber’s Christmas in Palmyra event at the Palmyra Courthouse will not be held this December.

“The Palmyra Chamber Board of Directors wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season,” said Susan Berti, administrative assistant to the Chamber.

The Palmyra Fire Department will also not be doing the rides with Santa this year.

However, Santa will be at the fire station every Saturday from Thanksgiving until Dec. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. to visit with the children and provide them with a small treat.

Social distancing will be required and masks are recommended.

In the past, Christmas in Palmyra has featured a live auction of Christmas decorations and baskets, after which those in attendance were given a chance to $1,000 in cash prizes, incuding five, $500 winners; one $200 winner and one $300 winner.

In addition, those present at the live auction voted on a “People’s Choice Award” of what they determined was the best decoration or basket.
