County opens two repaired, closed roads

by Patty Cheffey

Two roads, which have been closed because of bridge issues, have been reopened in Marion County.

Mike Schaefer, county highway supervisor, reported to the Marion County Commission Monday morning that both County Road 230 and County Road 302 are back open to full   traffic.

The bridge on County Road 230 had been closed last spring, but was reopened last week after the county replaced that bridge with two large culverts, Schaefer said.

While it is hoped the fix is permanent, Schaefer said that will depend on Mother Nature.

The bridge on County Road 302, which had its weight limit lowered by the state because of structural issues, was also replaced by a culvert installed by county crews.

Buses and farm equipment are now able to use that road as well, Schaefer said.

The commissioners also announced at the meeting, they will not be meeting next week because of the holiday.
