Lady Panthers go two-and out at Highland
The PHS varsity girls basketball team went two-and-out at last week’s Highland Tournament, losing to Canton and Knox County.
The fifth-seeded Lady Panthers (4-4) fell out of the event with a 44-39 loss to eighth-seeded Knox County in the consolation semifinals Wednesday.
Trailing 25-16 at the half, the Lady Panthers managed to rally and go into the final quarter down by just five, but Knox County held on from there.
Taytum White led Palmyra with 13 points and was followed by Rylie McKinney, 11, Abbey Redd, five, Ashley Bode, four, Grace Krigbaum, two, and Candra King, two.
The Lady Panthers opened the tournament with a 41-24 loss to fifth seeded Canton Monday.
Palmyra took an early 10-7 lead but were out-scored 34-14 the rest of the way, managing to make just five field goals in the last three quarters.
Scoring for Palmyra were King, eight, Redd, six, White, five, Sublette, three, and McKinney, two.
This week, the Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Knox County, Tuesday, and Centralia, Friday.
Districts at home
It was announced last week that Palmyra will host the Class 3 District 6 Tournament which also includes Clark County, Elsberry, Highland, Louisiana and Mark Twain.
