The Marion County R-II girls basketball team saw its four-game winning streak end with a 62-59 loss at LaPlata Thursday.
The Lady Mustangs (7-4) led by one going into the second quarter but suffered through a 25-10 run by LaPlata up to the break.
Marion County trimmed LaPlata’s 37-23 halftime lead with a 15-4 third quarter run, but could only match their opponents 21 fourth-quarter points to fall short.
Marion County had balanced scoring with four players reaching double figures.
Starters Halle Keilholz (15), Delaney Strause (14) and Olivia Wood (10) were joined by Madison Stewart, who came off the bench to contribute 10.
Riley Donath, a starter, just missed joining them with eight, while Triston Holt scored two.
Thirty of Marion County’s points came frome three-point shots. Keilholz sank five, while Donath and Stewart had two, and Wood one.
Straus and Keilholz combined to score 35 points in Marion County’s 50-15 victory at home over Wellsville-Middleton last Monday.
The Lady Mustangs started the game with a 15-1 run and went into halftime up 28-9.
Straus scored a game-high 18 points while also leading the team with 10 steals, while Keilholz sank all five of the team’s three-pointers and scored 17 points to go along with a team-leading six rebounds.
Also scoring were Wood, seven, Holt, four, Jordan Chatfield, two, and Stewart, two.
The Lady Mustangs are competing in the North Shelby Tournament this week.
