Mustangs lose to Silex, Paris, Scotland Co.

The Marion County R-II boys basketball team fell to Silex, Paris and Scotland County last week.

The Mustangs (1-16) ended the stretch with a 51-41 loss at home to Silex, Friday.

Marion County started the game strong and took a 23-18 lead into the second half when they were out-gunned 33-18.

Scoring for Marion County were Spencer Whetstone, 12, Root Cheney, 10, Chris Arment, five, Landon Holt, five, Cooper Stotts, five, Jackson Stewart, three, and Wyatt Goldinger, one.

A second quarter run by Paris proved to be the difference in the Mustangs 50-35 road loss Tuesday.

Marion County trailed by two going into the second quarter when Paris out-scored the Mustangs 14-3.

The Mustangs stayed with Paris in the second half, 27-25, but could not make up ground.

Scoring for Marion County were Stotts, 10, Whetstone, nine, Goldinger, six, Cheney, five, and Nathan Wellman, two.

The Mustangs also fell at Scotland County, 67-30, Monday.

The Mustangs trailed 20-10 after the first quarter and went into halftime trailing 38-21.

Scoring for Marion County were Goldinger, seven, Cheney, seven, Stewart, six, Whetstone, five, and Stotts, five.

This week, the Mustangs are competing in the Brashear Tournament.
