Rodney D. “Rod”  Hilten, 83, Palmyra, Mo., passed away at 5:28 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at his home in Palmyra.

Rodney was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Ladysmith, Wisc., to Lester and Marion Brainerd Hilten. He was married to Margaret I. Stewart April 9, 1960 in Kirksville, Mo.

Survivors include his daughters, Jeanne (Bruce) Brosi and Teresa D. Kroeger; grandchildren, Ryan Brosi, Dalton (Ashley) Kroeger, Kodi (Bryce Ramey) Kroeger; and one brother, Wally Hilten, Fairfax, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Kevin Hilten; and sister, Joyce Wisherd.

Rodney joined the United States Air Force Aug. 9, 1955, and served his country for four years as an aircraft mechanic until being honorably discharged in 1959.

He was an aviation mechanic and pilot. He worked as a flight school instructor and owned his own air ambulance company for many years. He retired as the FBO operator at Hannibal Airport.

Rodney was an avid Goldwing and Jeep enthusiast and loved woodworking.

He was Christian by faith.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. Pastor Tim Goodman will officiate.

 Friends and family are invited to Rodney’s life celebration at a visitation that will be from 10 to 11 a.m.,  Feb. 18, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Brosi, Ryan Brosi, Dalton Kroeger, Bryce Ramey, Mark Shipley and Del Buckman.

Memorials may be made to the Palmyra Food Pantry.
