Dr. John Dudley Hutcherson

Dr. John Dudley Hutcherson, 86, Denver, Colo., passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021.

John was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Palmyra, Mo., to Lynn and Josephine Schneider Hutcherson.

Survivors include a sister Lynda Jo Hutcherson Bair; a niece, Amy Bair Koerper; and two grand-nieces, Madelyn Jo Koerper and Elizabeth Rose Koerper, all of Lansdale, Pa. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-son, Jace Hutcherson. 

Dr. Hutcherson was a 1952 graduate of Palmyra High School and a 1956 graduate of Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. 

Professionally, John started his journey into medicine by earning his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1960, which he followed up by completing an internship and residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York in 1962. 

He then went into the U.S. Army (Medical Corps) as a captain stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska until 1964. 

Dr. Hutcherson performed an additional residency  in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University in 1966 and rounded off his education by completing a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Colorado. 

In 2020, Dr. John D. Hutcherson, M.D., FACC was recognized as a Top Cardiologist in Colorado.

John enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, scuba diving and sailing. He always looked forward to coming home to Palmyra and reminiscing good times with old friends.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, July 16, at 11 a.m. Pastor Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Afterward a happy hour and luncheon will be held at Cole’s Hearth Room (formerly The Old Stone House Inn) for family and friends. Please join us to reminisce the good old days.
