Lady Panther girls tennis team goes 4-1

The PHS girls tennis team went 4-1 last week, going 2-0 at Marshall and winning at Mexico while falling at home to Quincy High School.
The Lady Panthers went to 6-3 on the season by downing both Marshall and Sedalia Smith-Cotton at the Marshall Tournament Saturday.
Palmyra opened the event with a 6-3 victory over Smith-Cotton.
Winning singles matches were Molly Gottman, 10-1, over Adelina Kukosh; Jaynee Durst, 10-3 over Stephanie Estrada; Abbey Mann, 10-5, over Ellie Kotok; and Jeorgia O’Brien, 10-1, over Marcella Gonzalez.
Winning doubles matches were Molly Gottman and Durst, 8-2, over Kukosh and Kotok and Mann and O’Brien, 8-5, over Estrada and Gonzalez.
The Lady Panthers then beat the host squad, 6-3.
Winning singles matches were Maura Gottman, 8-1, over Avery Evans; Molly Gottman, 8-2, over Holly Huston; Durst, 8-2, over Bailey Kueker; and O’Brien, 8-2, over Fawna Hopson.
Winning doubles matches were Molly Gottman and Durst, 8-5, over Huston and Kuekter; and Mann and O’Brien, 8-5, over Alizah Russell and Hopson.
The Lady Panthers beat Mexico, 7-2, Tuesday.
Winning singles matches were: Maura Gottman, 8-2, over Katherine Gooch; Molly Gottman, 9-8, 7-3 tiebreaker, over Lillian Yager; Durst, 8-4, over Estrella Ramirez; and O’Brien, 8-2, over Winona Whelan.
Winning doubles matches were: Katie Rindom and Maura Gottman, 8-2, over Shelby Kennemore and Yager; and Molly Gottman and Durst, 8-3, over Gooch and Whelan.
The junior varsity squad (6-0-1) also won 7-2.
Winning doubles matches were: Emmalee Drebes and Marina Meyer, 8-2; Ashley Bode and Ava Browning, 8-4; Taytum White and Rilee Shrum, 9-7; Kenzie Bollin and Natalie Bartz, 8-4; Devyn Spratt and Ashlyn Akerson, 8-2; and Ruby Comstock and Lakeyn Smith, 8-1.
Laura Noland added an 8-3 singles match victory.
The varsity squad lost, 6-3, to QHS, Thursday.
Winning singles matches were: Durst, 8-4, over Amelia Willing and Abbey Mann, 8-5, over Mackenzie Carter.
Rindom and Maura Gottman won their doubles match, 9-7, over Phoebe Hayes and Lily Hayes.
The JV squad splits its two matches for a 1-1 tie.
Winning their match were Drebes and Browning, 8-6.
The varsity squad also competed at the Helias Tournament last Monday.
In singles competition:
No. 1 Molly Gottman (3) lost her three matches;
No. 2 Durst (4) went 1-2 for third place;
No. 3 Mann (5) went 2-1 for first place; and
No. 4 O’Brien (6) went 1-2.
In doubles:
No. 1 Rindom (1) and Maura Gottamn (2) went 2-1 for second place;
No. 2 Drebes (8) and Meyer (9) went 1-2 for third place;
No. 3 Bode (10) and Browning (11) went 3-0 for first place; and
No. 4 Maggie Keim (12) and White (14) went 2-1 for second place.
