Lady Panther softball team earns CCC victories over Macon, South Shelby

The PHS girls softball team went to 3-1 in the Clarence Cannon Conference with home wins over Macon and South Shelby last week.
The Lady Panthers (9-4) capped the week with a tense 3-2 victory at home over Macon Thursday.
Palmyra went into the top of seventh up 3-1, but Macon scored an unearned run and had the tying run at second with two outs when the base runner tried to steal third and was gun downed by catcher, Abbey Redd to end the game.
Kennedy Wilson scored Palmyra’s first run when she led off the bottom of the second with a single and moved on around to home on two passed balls and a wild pitch.
Palmyra also got a scratch run in the next inning when Bella McBride reached on an error, advanced to third on a two-base error and scored on a passed ball.
The third run in the sixth was also unearned when Redd led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on an error.
Jazlin Gottman started for Palmyra and went the first five and a third innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out nine.
The one run was a fifth inning home run off the bat of Aubrey Smith.
Wilson relieved and held the Tigerettes hitless, but getting touched for the one unearned run, striking out two and walking two.
Macon’s Brooke Weimer was the tough-luck losing pitcher, giving up just two hits while striking out 13.
The Lady Panthers opened the week with a 14-1 win at home over South Shelby, Tuesday.
The offense banged out 15 hits, including four for extra bases, while Kennedy Wilson pitched a four-hitter over five innings for the win.
Wilson struck out seven and walked three with the lone earned run coming in the fifth after Palmyra had already scored all of its 14 runs.
Wilson helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Abbey Redd, Jansen Juette Anna Ragar and Bella McBride all had two hits games.
Jazlin Gottman, Redd and Ragar hit doubles and Juette a triple.
