The PHS varsity softball team drew closer to nailing down at least a portion of the Clarence Cannon Conference championship with wins over Brookfield and Highland. earlier in the week.

With only five remaining games conference-wide, the Lady Panthers are tied for first with Macon with a 5-1 record.

The Lady Panthers were also scheduled to compete in the Centralia Tournament Saturday, but it was rained out.

Kennedy Wilson and Jazlin Gottman combined to throw a two hitter in the team’s 6-2 win at Brookfield, Tuesday.

Wilson went the first six inings, giving up two runs, on two hits and a walk while striking out five.

Gottman gave up a lead-off single in the seventh but retired the next three in a row to nail down the victory.

Palmyra managed just five hits, but also drew four walks and took advantage of six Brookfield errors with five of their runs being unearned.

The Lady Panthers scored three in the third with just one hit.

Brookfield scored a run in the fourth and another in the sixth to cut Palmyra’s lead to 4-2 going into the seventh with just one hit.

Bella McBride went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Gottman tossed a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 victory at Highland Monday.

The only hit, an infield single, came in the fifth inning, and the Lady Cougars managed just four batted balls into the outfield against Gottman, who struck out 11 and walked two.

Abbey Redd lead Palmyra’s 12-hit assault by going 4-for-5 with a triple five RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases.

McBride went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases, and Kennedy Wilson went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
