A Palmyra doubles pair earned a berth in the state individual tennis championships Friday.

Competing in sectionals at Mexico, Katy Rindom, a senior, and Maura Gottman, a junior, advanced to the state tournament for the second year in a row by beating Gabriella Meier and Anne Polansky, of Ursuline Academy out of St. Louis.
But they had to go to a tie-breaker to do it, winning 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.
The state tournament is being held in Springfield, Oct. 15-16.
Palmyra’s other sectional qualifying pair, Molly Gottman, a freshman, and Jaynee Durst, a senior, lost to Avery Surber and Greta Larsen, of Westminister Christian Academy out of St. Louis, 1-6, 1-6.
The two doubles pairs advanced to sectionals after winning the top two spots at district competition in Mexico last Monday.
Rindom and Maura Gottman were the top seeded pair while Molly Gottman and Durst were the second seed, and they both avoided being upset and faced off against each other in the championship.
Rindom and Maura Gottman won the match over Molly Gottman and Durst, 6-4, 6-2, but both advanced to sectionals.
Rindom and Maura Gottman advanced to the district doubles championship by beating a Moberly pair, 6-2, 6-0 and a Mexico pair, 6-1, 6-0.
Molly Gottman and Durst did the same by defeating a Kirksville pair, 6-2, 6-2 and the third-seeded pair from Mexico, 6-1, 6-0.
In district singles action, Palmyra’s Abbey Mann beat Moberly’s Lilly Tagai, 6-1, 6-2, but lost to the second seed, Kirksvsille’s Gracie Riemenschneider, 0-6, 2-6.
Jeorgia O’Brien lost to the fourth seed, Kristyn Kruse from Moberly 1-6, 4-6.
