For the second year in a row, the PHS girls golf team fell one spot short of reaching the state tournament.
Despite the setback, three of the team’s golfers qualified for state as individuals.
Palmyra shot a 414 as a team to finish in third place at the Class 1, District 1 Tournament at Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal, 21 strokes behind second place Centralia.
Only the top two teams at districts qualify for state.
Villa Duchesne won the tournament with a 371.
Ella Goldinger, a junior, led Palmyra with a 99 to tie for 11th overall, qualifying her for state.
Also going to state are Mallory Comstock, a senior, who finished 13th with a 100, and Mallory Sublette, a junior, who shot a 102, good enough for a 14th place tie.
Also playing for Palmyra were Maddie Jawad, 26th, 113, and Ava Weiman, 41st, 128.
The state tournament was played Monday and Tuesday at the Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar.
Results were not available in time for this edition.
Last year, Palmyra shot a 419 at districts, played at a course in Columbia, finishing in third, six strokes behind second place Centralia, and nine behind first place Duchesne.
Comstock played in her third straight state tournament and Sublette her second.
