Joann J. Fouse

Joann J. Fouse, 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at the Ranch House in Garden City, Kan.

She was born on Oct. 11, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Joe and Ruby Nordstrom Stoeckel.  On Dec. 23, 1954, she married Warren L. Fouse in Clay Center, Kan.  He passed away on March 2, 1993, in Garden City.  

A resident of Garden City, since 1960 moving from Cunningham, Kan., Jo was a former sales clerk for Books Etc.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Garden City, Presbyterian Mariners, and the GCCC Faculty Wives.  

Jo’s greatest love was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir and helping with the church rummage sale for many years

In her later years, she sang with M&M + 1 at various nursing homes, senior centers, and retirement homes in the area. Jo and Max Moomaw even sang at the Pickin’ on the Plains Bluegrass Festival in Colby, Kan.  

Jo loved to dance, as well as read, travel and watch sports.  She always knew how to make people feel special and didn’t know a stranger. Grandma Jo was loved by everyone she came in contact with and will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis (Donna) Fouse, Centerton, Ark.; Dick (Liesa) Fouse, Waukesha, Wisc.; two daughters, Pat Roth, Garden City; and Susan (Brad) Bier, Palmyra; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepfather, Charles Shaple; one sister, Ida Mae Forrester; one son-in-law, Ron Roth; and one daughter-in-law, Belinda Fouse.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the United Presbyterian Church in Garden City, with Pastor Doris Evans presiding.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at Keystone Cemetery in Manchester, Kan., with Steve Payne presiding.
