The PHS varsity girls basketball team went into this week’s Monroe City Tournament undefeated after adding victories over Mark Twain and Canton last week.

The Lady Panthers (3-0) capped their week at home with a 63-44 victory over Canton Friday.
Palmyra moved out to an 18-15 lead before going into halftime up by nine. The Lady Panthers then out-scored Canton, 31-21, the rest of the way.
Freshman Sydney Compton sank eight field goals including to three-pointers in scoring a game-high 22 points, while Jansen Juette added 13, Clair Williams, 10 and Canda King, nine, to lead the offense.
Also contributing on offense were Taytum White, seven, and Abbey Redd and Ashley Bock, one each.

The Lady Panthers found their groove in the second half of their home opener last Tuesday and turned a good halftime lead
into a 67-31 rout of Mark Twain.
The two teams played to a 9-9 tie after the first period, but White gave the team the lead with three quick three-pointers midway through the second quarter and a fierce full-court press provided some easy buckets to help Palmyra build a 29-19 halftime edge.
It got even better in the third quarter went on a 24-9 run before capping it off with a 13-3 run.
Palmyra’s defense was supreme in the second half, holding the Lady Tigers to just three field goals, all in the third quarter.

King played strong in the paint and even hit a three-pointer in leading Palmyra with 16 points.
White ended up sinking five total three-pointers for 15 points, the same total for Williams.
Also scoring were Compton, eight, Juette, six, Redd, five, and Bode, two.
The second-seeded Lady Panthers were to open Monroe City Tournament play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the middle school gym against seven-seeded Paris.
