With the filing deadline fast approaching, very few candidates have signed up to run in local city council and school board elections.
Patrick Barnes is the only Palmyra City Council candidate filing to run for another term in the second ward.
There are no candidates for Wards 1 and 3 where the seats currently held by Ellen Goodwin (Ward 1) and Earl Meyers (Ward 2) are up for election during the General Municipal Election April 5.
The Palmyra R-I School District has two candidates filed to run for the two available school board positions, both incumbents, Roth McElvain and Joe Knochel.
No candidates have filed yet for two available positions on the Marion County R-II Board of Education currently held by Beau Britt and Julie Straus.
The deadline for filing to run in the April 5 election is Dec. 28.
