Mustangs earn 45-24 victory over Madison

The Marion County R-II boys basketball team broke a four-game losing skid with a 45-24 win at home over Madison, Thursday.
The Mustangs (2-5) came out strong with a 10-0 run before going into halftime with a 15-point edge.
They held Madison at bay by outscoring their opponents 24-18 in the second half.
Joey Lagemann powered the Mustang offense, sinking two three-pointers and five of six free throws en route to a game-high 19 points.
Also scoring were Spencer Whetstone, nine, Wyatt Goldinger, six, Jackson Stewart, four, Caden Stotts, three, Porter Britt, two, and Cooper Stotts, two.
Marion County fell at Higbee, 82-38, Tuesday.
Higbee raced out to a 28-9 lead and went into halftime up 61-20.
Scoring for Marion County were Goldinger, eight, Whetstone, six, Stewart, six, Caden Stotts, five, Root Chaney, five, Lagemann, three, Kegan McIntosh, three, and Cooper Stotts, two.
The Mustangs could not stop Jordan Fuemmeler, a sophomore, who sank four three-pointers while scoring a game-high 29 points.
Derek Rocket and Jaime Smith also contributed 17 points each.
The Mustangs also lost 62-40 at home Monday to North Shelby in a game rescheduled from Nov. 23.
The Raiders jumped out to a 20-10 lead, but the Mustangs trimmed the deficit to five by the half.
North Shelby out-scored Marion County by two going into the final period when the Mustangs were shut out, 15-0.
Scoring for Marion County were Whetstone, 13, Goldinger, nine, Caden Stotts, six, Stewart, five, Lagemann, three, McIntosh, two, and Cooper Stotts, two.
The Mustangs were to finish 2021 by hosting LaPlata Monday. Results were not available for this issue.
The Mustangs will resume their season Jan. 4 at Brashear before hosting Novinger, Jan. 7.
