The PHS varsity girls basketball team struggled in Illinois last week, falling to both Quincy Notre Dame and Unity.

Palmyra’s Sydney Compton goes in for a layup against Quincy Notre Dame.
The highly ranked Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 25-9 lead and held Palmyra (5-3) to single-digit scoring in every quarter in topping the Lady Panthers 58-30 Friday.
Scoring for Palmyra were Candra King, 10, Sydney Compton, seven, Clare Williams, five, Taytum White, three, Ashley Bode, three, and Abbey Redd, two.

Palmyra’s Taytum White tries to get a shot off against Quincy Notre Dame.
The Lady Panthers also fell behind quickly and never recovered in a 60-30 loss at Quincy Notre Dame, Tuesday.
After trailing by 12 at the half, it only got worse for the Lady Panthers as the Lady Raiders outs-scored Palmyra 25-9 the rest of the way.
QND’s Abbey Schreacke was the main culprit, coming close to out-scoring Palmyra herself putting in 28 points in the first three quarters before sitting out the rest of the game.
Scoring for Palmyra were Compton, 11, Jansen Juette, seven, Williams, four, White, four, Bode, four, and King two.
The Lady Panthers were to finish 2021 by hosting Louisiana, Monday. Results were not available for this issue.
They begin the new year by competing in the Highland Tournament Jan. 3-8 (see related article).
