The PHS varsity girls basketball team opened Clarence Cannon Conference play with a 62-49 loss at Centralia Friday.
Centralia (6-4) got the early advantage with a 14-7 opening run and kept Palmyra (9-5) at arm’s length the rest of the way to win 62-49.
A lot of the early damage was caused by Morgan Ross, a sophomore, who sank five first-half three-pointers in helping Centralia build a 27-19 halftime lead.
Sydney Compton sank seven field goals, including a three-pointer, and led Palmyra with 18 points, while Kandra King hit six field goals and scored 13.
Also contributing on offense were Clare Williams, eight, Jansen Juette, four, Abbey Redd, two, Taytum White, two, and Ashley Bode, two.
The Lady Panthers opened the week with a sound defeat of at North Point, 62-8, Tuesday.
North Point is a new high school in Wentzville so the the Lady Raiders team is just getting started as well.
Scoring for Palmyra were Compton, 13, Williams, 12, White, 11, Juette, six, Redd, five, King, five, Bella McBride, four, Jaynee Durst, four, and Bode three.
The game was moved up a day due to the threat of winter weather Friday.
The Lady Panthers opened Tony Lenzini Tournament play Monday against Van-Far, but the results were not available for this issue.
