The Marion County R-II boys basketball team went into this week’s North Shelby Tournament on a winning note after topping Macon County, 53-40, at home during senior night Tuesday.

Down by one at the half, the Mustangs (4-8) went on a 17-9 run to open the second half and take control of the game.
Joey Lagemann and Root Cheney lead the charge by scoring all 17 third-quarter points.
Lagemann ended up sinking five field goals, including a three pointer, as well as all seven of this free throws to finish with a game-high 18 points.

Cheney pumped in four three-pointers and three of four free throws and finished with 17 points.
Jackson Stewart joined them in double figures by hitting two three-pointers on his way to 10 total points.
Also contributing were Caden Stotts, six, and Wyatt Goldinger, two.
The Mustangs opened the week with a 53-22 loss at Wellsville-Middleton Monday.
The Tigers’ Isaac Seabaugh scored 16 points, 12 by free throws, in leading his team on a 25-12 first half advantage.
Seabaugh ended up sinking 12 of 14 free throws in scoring a game-high 20 points.
Scoring for Marion County were Stewart, eight, Lagemann, five, Spencer Whetstone, five, Mason Wood, two, and Kegan McIntosh, two.
This week, the Mustangs are competing in the North Shelby Tournament.
