Lady Panthers overcome slow start to dominate Macon for 61-34 conference victory

The PHS varsity girls basketball team went 2-0 in Clarence Cannon Conference play last week, downing both Brookfield and Macon.

Things looked grim for the Lady Panthers (13-6, 2-1 CCC), who fell behind 13-3 early, but they turned the game around with a 20-1 run that gave them a 23-14 halftime lead.
Macon responded with two three-pointers to start the second half, but Palmyra stifled the Lady Tiger comeback with by out-scoring the visitors 38-17 the rest of the way for a 61-34 victory.
Palmyra benefited from balanced scoring from Candra King, 14, Clare Williams, 13, Sydney Compton, 10, Taytum White, 10, Abbey Redd, seven, Jansen Juette, five, and Jaynee Durst, two.
The Lady Panthers easily outscored Brookfield, 45-23, on the road, Tuesday.
Palmyra got out to a 13-5 lead and went into half time up 23-16 before shutting out Brookfield, 10-0, in the third quarter.
Scoring for Palmyra were King, 14, Compton, 12, Williams, 10, Juette, four, White, three, and Alaina Loman, two.
The Lady Panthers continued with conference play this week at Clark County, Tuesday and at home against South Shelby, Friday, and also host Kirksville, Wednesday.
