Filing period under way for August primary

The filing period for those interested in running for Marion County government offices, subject to the Aug. 2, 2022, Primary Election, will open at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, and will close at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2022, according to Valerie Dornberger, Marion County clerk and election authority.
Filing will take place at the Marion County Clerk’s Office, 100 S. Main, St., Suite 107, Palmyra, Mo.
Offices for election this year include: associate circuit judge, presiding county commissioner, county clerk, collector of revenue, treasurer, recorder of deeds, prosecuting attorney, circuit clerk-division I and circuit clerk-division II. Incumbents or challengers, who win at the August Primary, will then compete in the General Election on Nov. 8, 2022.
Declarations of candidacy may also be filed for the political offices of township or ward committeemen and committeewomen. These posts are elected at the Primary Election.
A first-day random drawing will be done to determine candidates’ ballot position for the Aug. 2, 2022, Primary Election. Those candidates who file from the second day through the last day will be listed on the ballot by their filing order following all first-day filers.
There is a filing fee to run for county government offices.
In addition, bonding requirements have been established for the treasurer and collector of revenue. Please refer to Missouri Revised Statute, RSMo.54.040(1), which sets bonding requirements that must be met for each candidate who is filing for the office county treasurer and Missouri Revised Statute, RSMo.52.010(3), which sets bonding requirements that must be met for each candidate who is filing for the office of collector of revenue.
