After winning the school’s first state golf title last season, the PHS boys are hoping to maintain success.
Three key members of last year’s team are gone, but 20 golfers are eager to start making their mark on the team this year.
“We obviously graduated three key pieces to last year’s state title team, but I am very excited about what we have returning,” said Coach Chris Parsons. “Laydin Lochman who finished seventh overall at state last season will be our anchor.
“We also have several others who are very strong and had great JV seasons last year and a few who had some varsity matches as well.”
Parsons expressed excitement about the young talent that continues to flow through the program.
“I am looking for Brett Tuter, Dreighton Sprinkle, Aaron Ritchey, Jimmy Scott and freshman, Jonas Janes, to be big contributors also,” Parsons said. “Jonas has a huge upside and has shown a great feel for the game these first few weeks and is setting second on the team right now.
“With golf there could always be a few surprises and with the way a few of the young guys are swinging, we could have several changes throughout the season as we compete.
The competition will be tough inside and outside the Clarence Cannon Conference including Hannibal.
“We are hoping to make another strong run come district time,” Parsons said.
Also on the team this season are seniors, Augustus Meyers and Ryan Nick, sophomores, Kamren Crane, Jeremiah Edwards, Kyle Jackson, and freshmen, Landon Carroll, Tate Hammond, Laden Simmons, Cooper Anderson, Carter Foutch, Preston Fuget, Shane Gard, Shawn Hirner and Tyler Wittler.
The Panthers have been assigned to Class 2, District 2 this season along with Belle, Bowling Green, Centralia, Clark County, Duchesne, Fatima, Hermann, Highland, Lutheran St. Charles, Missouri Military Academy, Monroe City, Montgomery County, North Callaway, South Callaway and South Shelby.
