The PHS boys track and field team opened the season by finishing second in the seven-team Winfield Open meet last Monday.

Palmyra had two first-place finishes and scored 169.5 points to finish behind Bowling Green, 228.5, but ahead of Silex, 169, Winfield, 154, St. Charles, 125, Louisiana, 92, and Clopton, 16.

Meanwhile, the home meet Friday was postponed.

Placing in the top eight for Palmyra were:

Hayes Miller, first place in the 200 meters at 52.47; and second place in the 100 meters at 11:31;

the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team of Miller, Gideon Bogue, Daniel Dames and Marty Smyser  at 3:45.11;

Caleb Juette, third place in the 3,200 meters at 11:45.04; and fifth place in the 1,600 meters at 5:02.40;

Evan Pennewell, third place in the pole vault at 2.70 meters;

Ryan McKeown, fourth place in the long jump at 5.73 meters; seventh place in the 110 meter hurdles at 18.57; and seventh place in the 300 meter hurdles at 48.21;

Connor Bross, fourth place in the 3,200 meters at 12:00.86; and eighth place in the 1,600 meters at 5:40.84;

Bogue, fourth place in the 100 meters at 11:82;

Jayden Sharrow, fourth place in the pole vault at 2.40 meters;

the sixth place 4 x 100 meter relay team of Parker Bier, Christian Johnson, Noah Getz and Smyser, at 50.58;

Johnson, sixth place in the triple jump at 11.66 meters; and

Getz, seventh place in the discus at 28.70 meters.

District’s assigned

The team was assigned to Class 3, District this season along with Boonville, Bowling Green, California, Centralia, Father Tolton Regional Catholic, Hallsville, Hermann, Macon, Montgomery County, North Callaway and Southern Boone.

A location for the district meet has yet to be determined.
