The PHS girls track and field team opened the season by placing fifth out of eight teams at the Winfield Open last Monday.

The team had five first place finishes and collected 103 points to finish behind Bowling Green, 223, St. Charles, 210, Louisiana, 181, and Winfield, 106, but ahead of Elsberry, 34, Clopton, 14, and Silex, 11.

Meanwhile, the home meet Friday was cancelled.

Placing in the top eight were:

Jansen Juette, first place in the triple jump at 10.34 meters; and second place in the 100 meters at 13.28;

Candra King, first place in the shot put at 10:12 meters; and second place in the discus at 27.83 meters;

Lauren Sheputis, first place in the 800 meters at 2:40.66;

Abbey Redd, first place in the pole vault at 2.85 meters;

the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team of Sheputis, Alaina Loman, Sydney Compton and Taytum White at 3:45.11;

Jeorgia O’Brien, second place in the 3,200 meters at 13:56.48; and third place in the 1,600 meters at 6:21.37;

the second place 4 x 100 meter relay team of Abbey Redd, Compton, Bella McBride and Juette at 52.59;

Loman, second place in the pole vault at 2.85 meters

Jayne Durst, third place in the 400 meters at 1:11.82;  and fifth place in the javelin at 27.36 meters;

Chloe Hicks, third place in the high jump at 1.40 meters;

White, third place in the long jump at 4.6 meters;

McBride, fourth place in the 100 meters at 13.54; and sixth place in the long jump at 4.52 meters;

Emma Krigbaum, fifth place in the 300 meter hurdles at 69.28; and eighth place in the 100 meter hurdles at 19.55;

Ava Weiman, sixth place in the 3,200 meters at 18:11.69; and

Hailey Kroeger, seventh place in the javelin at 21.76 meters.

District assignments

The team was assigned to Class 3, District this season along with Boonville, Bowling Green, California, Centralia, Father Tolton Regional Catholic, Hallsville, Hermann, Macon, Montgomery County, North Callaway and Southern Boone.

A location for the district meet has yet to be determined.
