The PHS varsity baseball team went into the district tournament with a win over South Shelby and a loss to Hannibal, both on the homefield last week.

Palmyra’s Rayce Ragar makes sure at least one Pirate is out at second base following a rundown, Thursday.
The 16-3 blowout win over South Shelby last Monday, assured the Panthers (10-10-1) a second place finish in the Clarence Cannon Conference at 6-1, just behind Macon which completed a 7-0 league sweep.
Palmyra’s only conference loss came its first CCC game of the season April 5, 6-0, to Macon.
The Panthers took the drama out of Monday’s contest against South Shelby by scoring three runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third and seven in the fourth which shortened the game to five innings.
Palmyra pounded out 10 hits, including doubles by Rayce Ragar, Brayden Shannon and Landyn Smith.
Alex Loman went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Smith went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Panthers.
Ethan Tallman pitched the first four innings for the win, giving up two runs, both unearned on two hits and three walks while striking out five.
Nolyn Richards pitched a scoreless fifth.
On Thursday, the Panthers got smoked by Hannibal, 13-0, in their final regular season contest.
The Pirates scored six runs in the second and six more in the third and held Palmyra to just five hits including a double by Smith, to put the game out of sight early.
Goodwin went 2-for-2 for the Panthers.
